sabato 7 novembre, ore 16,30 ho eseguito una mia composizione tutta nuova - fatta per l’occasione ed il luogo (time and space specific) - in cui la materia diventa suono elettronico e la sintesi digitale suona come uno strumento acustico

per materiali sonori, elettronica e oggetti musicali virtuali
Il titolo é preso dall’omonimo lavoro di Enrico Prampolini, 1930; in esso l’artista ha usato materiali come lo smalto, il sughero, la spugna e una delle prime materie di sintesi (plastica): la galatite.
La ricerca del materico é presente anche nella musica di quegli anni: dagli Intonarumori di Russolo, ai primi esempi di uso di registrazioni sonore, in attesa dei prossimi futuri suoni di sintesi (elettronici) la materia acustica si separa (perché la tecnologia lo permette) dal materiale che produce il suono. Lo strumentario si allarga aggiungendo strumenti (soprattutto apercussioni) provenienti da ogni parte del mondo, la musica concreta ed elettronica preparano il loro ingresso in scena.
Nel comporre il brano, coerentemente con i titolo sono stato sollecitato dal bellissimo Museo del paesaggio Sonoro, che ha sede a Palazzo Grosso, quindi nello stesso luogo in cui ho eseguito il mio brano. La straordinaria raccolta di materiali « poveri » sonori, di strumenti della tradizione, di modi d’uso e di tecniche e repertori musicali popolari, nella bella « messa in scena » interattiva del museo mi ha stimolato a creare un breve brano che mescola naturale e sintetico, in un gioco un po’ paradossale (un trompe l’oreille) di inversioni: gli strumenti che ho usato sono un kit di strumenti sonori semplici quanto efficaci e belli, pensati e realizzati ad uso didattico da Jean-Bernard Pascal Rajerison, dit Rapasy un artigiano del Madagascar. Paglia, canna, legno scelti con cura diventano oggetti sonori e strumenti per fare musica che privilegiano il suono prima del linguaggio musicale: un approccio che mi trova totalmente d’accordo per fare avvicinare alla musica i bambini.
Ho trattato questi strumenti « poveri » capaci di produrre suoni ricchissimi di sfumature e varianti con altrettanto semplici strumenti di trattamento del suono elettronico in tempo reale (delay, pitch shift, eco, reverberazioni) per una performance in tempo reale che accostava una base musicale in cui uno strumento virtuale di sei corde modellizzate fisicamente (con il programma di sintesi per modelli fisici GENESIS dell’ACROE di Grenoble) suonava una passacaglia lenta sulle note dei nomi di Bach e Cage; quindi sulle sei corde vuote AbhCeg.

Saturday 7 November, 4.30 p.m. I performed an entirely new composition of mine - made for the occasion and the place (time and space specific) - in which matter becomes electronic sound and digital synthesis sounds like an acoustic instrument.

The title is taken from the work of the same name by Enrico Prampolini, 1930; in it the artist used materials such as enamel, cork, sponge and one of the first synthetic (plastic) materials: galatite.
The search for the material is also present in the music of those years: from Russolo's Intonarumori, to the first examples of the use of sound recordings, in anticipation of future synthesis (electronic) sounds, the acoustic material is separated (because technology allows it) from the material that produces the sound. The instrumentarium is enlarged by adding instruments (especially percussion instruments) from all over the world, and concrete and electronic music make their entrance.
In composing the piece, in accordance with the title, I was prompted by the beautiful Museo del Paesaggio Sonoro, located in Palazzo Grosso, thus in the same place where I performed my piece. The extraordinary collection of "poor" sound materials, traditional instruments, modes of use, and popular musical techniques and repertoires, in the beautiful interactive "staging" of the museum, stimulated me to create a short piece that mixes the natural and the synthetic, in a somewhat paradoxical game (un trompe l'oreille) of inversions: The instruments I used are a kit of simple but effective and beautiful sound instruments, designed and made for educational use by Jean-Bernard Pascal Rajerison, dit Rapasy a craftsman from Madagascar. Carefully chosen straw, cane and wood become sound objects and instruments for making music, which gives priority to sound before musical language: an approach that I totally agree with in order to bring children closer to music.
I treated these "poor" instruments, capable of producing sounds rich in nuances and variations, with equally simple electronic sound processing tools in real-time (delay, pitch shift, echo, reverberation) for a real-time performance that juxtaposed a musical base in which a virtual instrument of six physically modeled strings (with the GENESIS synthesis program for physical models from ACROE in Grenoble) played a slow passacaglia on the notes of Bach and Cage; then on the six empty AbhCeg strings.
