Le voci del mondo (The voices of the world) for orchestra of loudspeakers, every one with its Genesis player inside is a new composition conceived for the acousmonium de O'Culto da Ajuda, the hall of Musica Viva, Misomusic Festival at Lisbon and its 24 loudspeakers orchestra.
I am currently pursuing a PhD in the field of GENESIS, a software used for musical synthesis with physical modelling. I have created thousands of models that produce unique sounds, each with its own distinct "voice". These models, ranging from simple to complex, are designed to generate musical compositions as well as simple sounds. As a result, the sounds produced can be complex and richly articulated, often resembling the voices of strange animals, cryptic signals, or ancient musical instruments.
For "Le voci del mondo," I have selected 24 models capable of generating long sounds that can last for minutes or even hours. I have assigned the sound of each model to a specific channel of the loudspeaker orchestra. In this way, each loudspeaker will emit the sound of one of these unique objects. During the concert, I will play with the mixer and open different channels to allow the audience to hear one, some, or all of these sounds scattered in space. I imagine that the listener will feel as if they are standing still in the middle of an unreal forest, where the sounds of these objects come from different directions and surround them.
