In September 2025,thirty years after composing In the Cage for flute and guitar, https://giuseppegavazza.it/works/cronologia/8-pagine/157-in-the-cage I heard a compelling concerto for flute and piano (Manuel Zurria and Oscar Pizzo) performed by the same flutist to whom the original piece had been dedicated and who had premiered it. This encounter prompted me to undertake a substantial reworking of the composition. After three decades, I retained only a vague memory of the original material, so I decided to preserve the flute part essentially unchanged and to recompose from the ground up, creating an entirely new piano part that recontextualizes the solo line.
